Kellyn Elizabeth Doerr is a Brooklyn-based journalist and documentary filmmaker who tells stories about people, power, and the strange corners of real life most others overlook.

Doerr is originally from the Upper West Side of Manhattan (right above Zabar’s), but spent much of her childhood moving around the country with her family before eventually landing in Providence, Rhode Island. Somewhere between all that movement, she fell in love with documentaries after watching Grizzly Man, and realizing storytelling could convey the most important fact that we all are indeed deeply human... She’s been chasing that feeling ever since.

Journalism runs in the family. With two parents and a grandfather in the field, she grew up around deadlines, strong opinions, and an understanding that telling the truth is both a privilege and a responsibility.

Originally a writer, Doerr studied English and Public Communication at the University of Vermont (yes, it was very cold and yes, she skis), graduating in 2021. She recently earned her master’s degree in News and Documentary from New York University, where she directed and produced a short documentary on New York City’s sumo wrestling community, despite knowing absolutely nothing about sumo beforehand. She made the film entirely solo, which means she’s comfortable figuring things out the hard way (and usually does).

Now working as a freelance documentary filmmaker and journalist, she is drawn to character-driven, socially grounded stories and is always looking for the next project, collaboration, or unexpected subject that wants to chat.

Doerr lives in the best borough of NYC, Brooklyn (sorry, not sorry), with her husband and two cats. When she’s not filming or writing, she can usually be found watching aggressively bad reality TV or building overly ambitious charcuterie boards for friends who didn’t ask for it - but benefit from it anyway.
